A 1146 mile cycle ride from Land's End to John o' Groats

Day 6 – Tickenham to Wormbridge

A long day in the saddle today. 67 miles. The first part was flattish, then on to a mix of busy roads and quiet cycle paths around the industrial area near the Severn Road Bridge.

Crossing the Severn Road Bridge and on into Wales.

We left General D at Chepstow and cycled up and along the edge of the Wye Valley to Monmouth. The route then meandered along quiet lanes to Skenfrith, then over a very lumpy bit, before arriving at our B&B, Howton Grove House. Carol, who runs the B&B, was lovely and really looked after us. Thanks Carol.

Not sure if it was just our legs being tired, day after day of cycling catching up on us, but some of the hills towards the end of the day were killers. I was in first gear and having to stand up on quite a few of them – something I didn’t even do on the Cornish hills.

Amy and Lily have driven across from Bicester to stay with us at the B&B. It’s great to see them, although I think it might be quite an emotional goodbye as we cycle off in the morning.

A lovely family meal at The Bridge Inn at Kentchurch – a proper pub. Great food and friendly people – they even sponsored us!

No rain today. Joe even managed to top up his tan.
