A 1146 mile cycle ride from Land's End to John o' Groats
Starting on July 7th 2012, we’ll be cycling all the way from from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. That’s about 1000 miles.
Setting off with our Carradice saddlebags packed full of cheese and Marmite sandwiches, we aim to complete the journey in just under three weeks. Joe, aged only 14, has youth, vigour and lycra on his side. James, aged 42, has creaking knees and bicycle from 1976.
Without him realising it, Joe (above) has been in training for our ride since the age of 2.
James, aged 9 (above). Notice the fashionable short mudguards.
The bike was also equipped with a mileometer, pump and chainguard.
I remember being uncomfortable with the downward sloping rear rack as I felt it affected the overall streamlined styling.
Just to avoid any confusion, James won’t be cycling on the above bicycle. He’s cycling on this one.
