James and Joe cycle LeJog

A 1146 mile cycle ride from Land's End to John o' Groats

Day 14 – Sanquhar to Stevenston

After a hearty breakfast of porridge, salted for me, Golden Syrup for Joe, we set off for the west coast. A strong wind was against us for most of the day, slowing us down and sapping our energy. We trundled along the busy A76 before heading off onto quiet lanes at New Cumnock. From there we went through Skares, Tarbolton and on to our lovely B&B, Ardeer Steading, in Stevenston. Only £48 for a huge room. Super clean, super smart, super value. Cotton buds in the bathroom so clean ears for both of us.

52 miles today, so that makes a total of 783 so far. Just six days of cycling until we reach John o’ Groats.

Quite a lot of the road surface today has been terrible. Holes and badly-patched repairs that have shaken and jolted us more than anywhere else on the trip so far.

Looking forward to sailing to over to the Isle of Arran tomorrow.

No midges today. I think the wind kept them all at home. Either that or it was our new ‘juicy green apple’ body odour that put them off.
