A 1146 mile cycle ride from Land's End to John o' Groats

… all our troubles seemed so far away.

That was until we arrived in Cornwall. Well, not exactly troubles, just weather. Very, very windy. Wet, wet, wet and cold.

20 miles on our first day from Penzance Station to Land’s End and then on to the Youth Hostel.

Cycling into the headwind, with the cold rain hitting my face, I kept thinking about home, and warmth, and coffee, and not wanting to do the the silly ride any more.

Getting mobile reception in our room at the Youth Hostel wasn’t easy.

Ate at the Youth Hostel as couldn’t face venturing out again. £10 each for a plate of vegetable curry and a chocolate brownie and custard. Our bedroom was next to the toilet, which was used by thousands of Dutch school children. Thin walls and constant flushing. Beginning to think that Youth Hostels aren’t a great option – £38.50 for a small ‘family’ room, no towels, no breakfast (£5 extra each if requested), no TV and a shared shower/toilet.
